Geraghty Boat Charters: Passing the Torch

If you have ever set sail from Blacksod Pier to explore the Inishkea Islands and Achill Island or if you have went on a sea angling adventure to Black Rock, then you most likely sailed with Captains Mattie and Josephine of Geraghty's Boat Charters, a family run business who are well known all along the Wild Atlantic Way. But now, after 31 years at the helm, the couple have decided to pass the torch to their successor, their son Jason, who along with his partner Katherine and daughters Maisie and Kitty, are set to lead Geraghty Boat Charters into the next chapter.

Conveying sincere appreciation, Mattie and Josephine extend thanks to everyone who has been part
of their remarkable journey. “We wish to thank each and everyone who supported us, sailed with us,
helped us, and skippered for us during the last 30 years. The community's support and the memories created will always be remembered in Geraghty Charters history.”

Locals celebrate the launch of Geraghty's Boat Charters in 1993

Manager of Mayo North Tourism, Mairéad Melody Carr, extends her heartfelt gratitude to Mattie and Josephine for their unwavering dedication to tourism in North Mayo. “Geraghtys welcome everyone as friends, and their captivating stories and warm hospitality have not only left a lasting impression on international visitors, the domestic market, and locals but also resonated with media and influencers. Best wishes go to Jason, Katherine, Maisie, and Kitty for success in growing this business. On behalf of Mayo North Tourism, I express our sincere appreciation for the Geraghty family's contributions and eagerly look forward to the exciting next chapter in Geraghty Charters journey along Blacksod Bay and the Wild Atlantic Way.”

A Proper Pint: McDonnells Bar and Undertakers Review

The experts say that emotional storytelling is a powerful way to connect with your audience and this documentary certainly succeeded in doing so. 'A Proper Pint' draws on so many emotions such as nostalgia as you listen to tales of years gone by, a sense of pride for the breathtaking and picturesque part of North Mayo where we are so lucky to call home, fascination at all the interesting facts that you learn about the area that you may not have known and of course an abundance of happy and sad memories of the times the McDonnell family have touched each and every one of our lives, be it a celebration in the bar or helping families with their loved ones journey home. This documentary is special and it even has a cameo by a very recognisable feline friend 😸😸😸 Even if you are not from Erris, this documentary tells its story in such a way that you will feel that you have already been welcomed into the pub, heard a song on the Irish pipes and had a nice chat with the locals!! Erris Logs bringing you a renewable, sustainable and carbon-neutral source of heat!

The Erris Log Company was formed in 2020 and is situated in Carne, Belmullet. The firewood they provide is very high quality and well-seasoned Pine & Spruce. Their service is available to people in the Erris region and also the wider Mayo market. Louis has shared his years of experiece with me to bring you the following information on everything from the benefits of using firewood to how to store it properly.   So why should you choose wood over other sources of fuel? Wood is a renewable, sustainable and carbon-neutral source of heat with many benefits such as; It is cleaner to handle and store. No turf dust or coal dust. It doesn't degrade during storage, what you put into storage is what you get out. More instant heat than turf Easier to regulate your heat. At the moment, it is cheaper than turf or coal. Flexile quantities for purchase It doesn't need a shed for storage. Timber likes lots of air circulation, Very little ash. For large stoves only clean once per week. It ...

Priscilla Movie Review

Last Thursday at Aras Inis Gluaire Belmullet, they screened director and screen writer Sofia Coppola's biographical movie, 'Priscilla'. The movie tells the tale of Priscilla Beaulieu, who through loving Elvis Presley had everything and nothing all at the same time. A tale of isolation, lonliness and the dark side of what seemed to be a fairytale. The lead roles were played by Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) and Jacob Elordi (Elvis). I thought Spaeny did a fantastic job at portraying Priscilla's innocence when she first met Elvis and Elordi also impressed as a much darker Elvis to what viewers are used to seeing. The movie itself is based on Priscilla's memoir 'Elvis and Me'. This is her story of what life was like with the King of Rock'n'Roll and it does not portray him in a good light. Spoiled, misogynistic, psychologically abusive and deviant are words that come to mind when you ask me to describe the man I seen on screen. Priscilla did everything to t...
