Erris born Eddie Maguire is unrivalled at the ISPS Handa Spanish Open

Eddie Maguire was born in Blacksod and then moved to Aughleam as a young boy. Although Eddie now lives in Navan with his wife Joan who hails from there, a part of his heart will always be in Erris. Over two decades ago while working as a secondary school teacher, a freak accident left Eddie almost completely blind. Following medical regeneration he is now visually impaired meaning he now has around 6% sight.

Eddie was only 57 at the time of the accident and had a sporting career in both football and athletics. Having always been an active person, loosing his sight left Eddie completely devastated. After a couple of hard years he did some soul searching and decided he was not going to let his disability define him. So with the help of his loving family, Eddie began to rebuild his life.

Eddie recalled he had an interest in golf while living in the US as a young man. He payed a visit to the South Meath Golf Club in Trim and his love of the game was awoken inside him. He proved to be a talented golfer. Eddie became a member of Irish Blind Golf and has had a very successful golfing career. His most recent triump was at the ISPS Handa Spanish Open. The competition took place in May and Eddie finished in first place out of twenty-four golfers from twelve different countries.

Eddie believes that along with his family, golfing saved his life. He has a true passion for the game and it has allowed him the oppurtunity, through competing, to see countries all over the world that he thought he would only ever dream of seeing. Eddie hopes that his story will inspire other people with disabilities to push the boundaries and most importantly:

'DONT LET YOUR DISABILITY DEFINE YOU!!'

A Proper Pint: McDonnells Bar and Undertakers Review

The experts say that emotional storytelling is a powerful way to connect with your audience and this documentary certainly succeeded in doing so. 'A Proper Pint' draws on so many emotions such as nostalgia as you listen to tales of years gone by, a sense of pride for the breathtaking and picturesque part of North Mayo where we are so lucky to call home, fascination at all the interesting facts that you learn about the area that you may not have known and of course an abundance of happy and sad memories of the times the McDonnell family have touched each and every one of our lives, be it a celebration in the bar or helping families with their loved ones journey home. This documentary is special and it even has a cameo by a very recognisable feline friend 😸😸😸 Even if you are not from Erris, this documentary tells its story in such a way that you will feel that you have already been welcomed into the pub, heard a song on the Irish pipes and had a nice chat with the locals!! Priscilla Movie Review

Last Thursday at Aras Inis Gluaire Belmullet, they screened director and screen writer Sofia Coppola's biographical movie, 'Priscilla'. The movie tells the tale of Priscilla Beaulieu, who through loving Elvis Presley had everything and nothing all at the same time. A tale of isolation, lonliness and the dark side of what seemed to be a fairytale. The lead roles were played by Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) and Jacob Elordi (Elvis). I thought Spaeny did a fantastic job at portraying Priscilla's innocence when she first met Elvis and Elordi also impressed as a much darker Elvis to what viewers are used to seeing. The movie itself is based on Priscilla's memoir 'Elvis and Me'. This is her story of what life was like with the King of Rock'n'Roll and it does not portray him in a good light. Spoiled, misogynistic, psychologically abusive and deviant are words that come to mind when you ask me to describe the man I seen on screen. Priscilla did everything to t...
